Les Massifs on fire

from CHF 156.00

What an evening this was! I was actually out photographing some sunset downhill biking on a ridge in the foreground outside of this frame. We predicted a red sky going by the recent weather pattern. But we didn’t expect it to be quite this good.

At sunset, the mountains to the right of the Aiguille d’Argentière ignited with colour, as if the entire massif has been set alight. The sharp silhouettes of the Aiguille du Chardonnet and the Tour Noir cut through the glowing sky, while the broad, glaciated dome of the Trient–Tour plateau reflected the feeling of warmth in the cold late autumn air.

Seen from the Swiss Valais side in Verbier, this is a rare perspective of the Chamonix Aiguilles, one where the late autumn stillness meets extraordinary light. The mountains hold their form in cool shadow as the sky behind them erupts in deep orange and magenta, creating a contrast that lasts only a few brief moments before fading back into black.
