Aletschhorn Ancient and Unhurried
Aletschhorn rises beautifully above the Aletsch glacier, standing slightly apart from the more well known peaks of the Bernese Alps. And perhaps that’s why it carries such presence. There is a softness to its summit, yet its walls fall away in deep, shadowed folds carved by centuries of ice.
The Aletsch glacier below always looks to me like a giant a slow white river. A river of memory shaped long before any of us arrived. Aletschhorn doesn’t shout for attention. It invites a quieter kind of respect, the kind that grows the more closely you look. I’d say this is the lesser photographed in the area, but on this day when I saw it, I had to capture it.
